The bed came in parts. The directions numbered and very logical. It took my husband and I about two and half hours once we got the idea of matching the numbers. The trundle bed is sturdy and safe. I did not use the mattresses that were recommended. They were very thin and I did not feel they would hold up. I got thicker very good mattresses and use risers to lift the bed so that it would accommodate the thicker mattresses. I also got some rubber safety edge and corner cushion set to put on the ends since my grand children are young and i did not want them to get hurt. Very durable.
