I did a lot of research on queen size platform beds and looked at many before finally deciding to purchase this one by Frames. It was delivered this week and I couldnt be more pleased. It is solid wood with an aesthetically pleasing grain, very well-made and such a space-efficient design. Rather than leave it unfinished, I opted to stain it with Minwax Golden Oak stain (oil based). By the way, I had read many reviews and saw comments about it being rough and/or having marks. I didnt find that to be the case. Perfectionism has its place but I chose not to go that road, no need. So I didnt sand it initially, nor later. I didnt want it to be dark so I only did one application. It stained beautifully. After that, I applied two coats of Minwax Polyurethane. Since I dont need it to be perfectly smooth, I didnt sand after the second coat and didnt apply a third coat. It turned out just beautiful and smooth enough to the touch for my needs. It is easier to assemble with two people and isnt difficult at all--very good instructions plus a simple design. After having looked at platform beds ranging in price from the $200s to close to $3000, Im so glad I made the decision to go with this Charleston from Frames! For an additional $25 or so in stain and polyurethane from the hardware store, a little time and effort, I have a bed that looks and feels far more expensive than it was. Love this bed and the manufacturer!
