Wish it were a shorter and had a smaller riser

It’s really hard to tell from the pictures that this Xtreme Gaming Desk has a riser that takes up over half the area of the desk, making the desk much less useful. So much of the desk is covered by the riser, that you’ll have to put things on the riser itself, which isn’t bad if you don’t need more of your desk to be on one level. In addition, the desk is 30 inches high, which is rather high for a keyboard to rest ergonomically. I had hoped my husband could use this as a work desk, but because it is even higher than the desk he is using, it’s not going to fulfill that need. Instead, one of the kids will use this for a gaming desk, I think. I wish I had calculated out the difference between the riser height and the desk height before I ordered this. That is on me, but I will never understand why so many desks are made too high, necessitating the use of keyboard trays and work-arounds. Rare is the person who does not have a keyboard on his desk, so why can’t manufacturer’s get the message? This desk is made of a rather average particle board and is assembled with cams and dowels. The assembly method is one I prefer, but I wish the particle board was a better quality. This was easy for two people to assemble, although we chose to do a couple of steps in a different order than instructed because it was easier. We chose not to mount the lights, as we deem them not important. This desk has a usb port, a headset hanger, and a drink holder. Problems with this desk: The large riser taking up too much desk space and makes the back of the desk 34 inches tall. The cable management tray has no holes leading to the desk or underneath, which rather negates its purpose. I may take a hole saw and create a few passages for cords. I wish the particle board was a better quality, as I don’t know how well it will hold up. Overall, docking this desk a star for the oversized riser and another star for the bad design of the cable management and average-quality particle board.
