This is an update to my first review below. IRONRK just followed up by email and provided a full refund thru , which , in my experience, shows unusually fine customer service and integrity on the part of a large supplier like this. I may even later try another of their products, maybe one that looks less challenging.
Unless you are in search of getting into a woodworking hobby, this is not for you, as the positive reviews (a breeze to assemble) are clearly deceptive. My first reaction on starting assembly was to return this for a refund. was ok with that and customer service then replied by email and asked for more info and a photo to verify my complaints. So I then decide that a return was not worth the time and effort and instead went ahead with this carpentry short course.
The materials are what we paid for, correct dimensions and tolerances, all parts were in the box, and the hardware and wood were as expected but shipping container was shoddy. I just finished the assembly after three trips to Depot and spending two afternoons finding ways to remake this into a piece of furniture that is safe in the and performs as was advertised.
Details.
The holes for the wooden alignment dowels are too deep, so the dowels fall all the way into a drilled hole when one tries to press together pieces 7, 8 and 9. The dowels that do fit into mating sections then break off as the sections fall apart. I had to buy and attach angle brackets to hold the 3 pieces together so I could continue without damaging the wood further.
Assembly (steps 3,4,5 and 6) with one person is very difficult without a large work bench and a third hand.
The M5x45mm wood screws furnished for attachment of the legs are too short and small a gauge and strip the wood panels even with hand tightening. Their small heads also fall into the holes in the soft legs outer surface and end up inside the legs. I had to buy larger and longer 14x 2 inch screws to assure that the legs would secure and later support a sitter. not happy at all
Need a hobby.
