The desk top has pretty wide gap and I realize its so the top can tilt but my grandsons iPad fell thru also some supplies . The chair while sturdy is very hard to scoot up even for us we tried , it would have been better to have wheels my grandson is 6 and the chair tipped over twice while he was trying to scoot closer to desk
