Fairly easy to assemble. My 4 year old helped me since I was 34 weeks pregnant when I finally put the bed together. She held the light weight end posts while I used the provided Allen wrench. I did that in 2 days though and broke up the install Time.
One hole on the steps end was a larger drilled hole and the screw just keeps twisting and doesnt grab the threads.
Didnt set up the desk yet because no room for it in her bedroom.
From the photo online I couldnt tell where you climbed up but its the short end of the shelves along the side of the bed. Actually stepping on the would be end of the shelf. Its metal edging section and not the shelf itself.
A little wobbly when shaking it overall but I like that its metal vs. a wooden painted bed that off gases or gets knicked.
The shelves are plywood so probably some glue formaldehyde there but no smells like I read in wooden version reviews.
Height is ideal and she loves her cave underneath with LED lights we added.
