First off, my wife was able to put this together totally on her own in probably a couple of hours. I think some reviewers have talked about how difficult this was to construct - and while shes no novice at projects, given she didnt really complain much about it I have to assume this is something many people with some experience with tools could easily put together.
That said, I think my photos show some of the areas the manufacturer has chosen to cut corners to keep the cost where it is. And, at the end of the day, you do get a pretty nice bed for a very affordable price. Its difficult to find even a steel platform type of a thing for a significantly smaller amount of money which doesnt give you the nice drawers and look you might want in your bedroom.
This is for a nine-year-old son of ours, and I know he loves it. The drawers function and slide easy enough, and weve come to quite like the functionality and appearance of the bed. It seems tough enough that even myself at just over 200 pounds can lay on it without any concern or excess noise such as wondering if the wood is about to give!
If you are anticipating a product that at all the little details is just well-made youre going to be disappointed. This has what I would consider to be typical manufacturing issues for this kind of a product, which is built almost entirely of particleboard with fake wood veneer. Given the veneer on my bed is black, its very easy to touch up with just a sharpie! With just some basic use and abuse of only a couple of months the corners of the drawers have worn to where they show the particleboard and Im assuming this is just from clothing and shoes and so forth, very little use.
As far as putting this together, if youve done this kind of thing before you know you have to be cautious. Its easy to overturn screws and split wood and so forth. Its best to simply utilize hand screwdrivers instead of your power tools so that you can control the process and get a good feel for when youre tightening things enough and not over tightening them. Additionally, if you really want to be solid, I recommend you use some wood glue or any construction adhesive at all the major joints and youll have a pretty good product that will last you a very long time.
Finally, the product did come very nicely packaged and handled the delivery process just fine even though it looked good and weathered by the time it arrived. Very happy overall with this bed, and dont think youre going to find a much better deal for the price at any of the big box stores or even here on .
