The design of the bed is fine but unfortunately, this product is cheaply made. When we assembled it, the predrilled holes on the ladder split as soon as we tightened the screws. Having assembled lots of prefab furniture in the past, I can say with confidence that we did not over-tighten the screws. If it were not so cumbersome to return furniture bought on line, I would have sent it straight back. I now have to order replacement parts for the ladder. I would agree with other reviews that the order of assembly with the placement of the slats is counter-intiutive, so if you are not experienced with assembly, get something more intelligently designed.
