This set was super cheap, and I was nervous b/c I kept ...
We bought this bunk bed set for two 4 year olds, around 33 lbs each. Were only planning on them using these beds for 1-2 years so we didnt want to spend a lot. We were looking for bunkbeds online and were expecting to spend about $600-$700, but first saw this set for $400 on another site. We then found it half the price on , but the color we wanted was $50 more so we found it on another site in the color we wanted for $199.
This set was super cheap, and I was nervous b/c I kept thinking you get what you paid for but since we were using it for a short period I bought it based on the reviews. I think this set works fine for little kids but it is not very sturdy and I personally would not recommend it for older or heavier kids. When I climb the bed to make the bed ~120 lbs it does not feel steady and shakes. One time I grabbed the guard rail b/c I lost balance and felt like I could have easily ripped it partially off if my weight fell more in the direction. The distance in height between the 2 beds is short. My kids can sit up on the bottom bunk but older kids and adults can only partially sit up against pillows as one does while reading.
The beds did come with a giant safety sticker across one headboard that required goo gone to remove. It did not remove any finish.
If you have kids that like to jump and be a little rough/or are active like most kids, Id spend more money. Even when one of my kids is getting on the top bunk and he crawls with a little jump the whole bed shakes a little. We just emphasized with our kids no jumping and so far they have listened. Its only been a few weeks. The ladder hurts the bottom of my feet but my kids havent complained.
The beds did smell when we received them. We just aired out the room with opened windows and a ceiling fan for several days when no one was in the room and it went away. The same happened with our nursery furniture which we spent a lot on from a boutique. You could always open the box and let the pieces air out until you are ready to assemble the bed. That may help a little.
My husband assembled the 2 beds separately by himself, but had someone help him stack the beds. It took him a few hours.
We bought 8 mattresses from and they both fit well, even on the top bunk. There is no concern about a small child rolling off the bed.
If you want bunk beds to last many years, spend more money and get something more durable. If you want something short term, these will work.
