When baby #2 came along, we needed to find a big girl bed for our 18 month old and researched toddler beds and other twin options to no end. Not wanting to invest in a smaller toddler bed that would only last a few short years, and knowing that our girls would eventually share a room, looking into bunk beds made sense. We purchased this Long Horn bunk bed 3 months ago with the intention of building only the top bunk with railings to use on the floor, of course for added security for our older daughter.
It was the perfect choice! She loves her bed, and transitioned to it with excitement and quickly. Plus, we feel extremely comfortable with her safety and security. The bed is low enough, since it doesnt have a box spring, for her climb in and out of confidently. The railings only leave a small opening where the angled ladder is intended to attach - note that some other bunk beds with attached straight railings cant be built so that each twin bed is used on the floor separately so her night time movements are contained. The bed is sturdy enough for me to lay down with her, when needed.
All in all, affordable and a great purchase. I look forward to building the bottom bunk bed for our older daughter once our younger daughter moves out of her crib and takes over the bed with railings. Im sure that both girls will enjoy the bed for years to come.
