I purchased this bed for my toddler and am already having to look at replacing it. Once we had the bed put together, I was quite pleased with its size and overall look in the room. We placed the bed against the corner walls and we were able to easily put a safety railing under the mattress so that my 2 year old was able to have a big boys bed. We had a friends daughter staying with us for a few weeks and she was sleeping on the top bunk. After about 2 weeks, I heard a big crash as she was going to bed and when I ran into the room, the rung of the ladder had split into two while she was climbing up it. She is a petite 12 yr. old girl. Upon inspection, we noticed that all of the ladder rungs were splintering on the sides where the rungs attach to the main poles of the ladder. My husband had to replace, or support the rungs, with wood pieces we had in the garage just so that she could keep using the bed.
Other than that, the other reviews give a pretty accurate description of the bed. The bottom planks of wood are exposed but we took a cheap plastic shower curtain and laid that down underneath the boards so that our son does not get splinters too. The ladder is wobbly is not screwed into place so be careful about that. The size works well for small children and it looks nice in the room but we were disappointed in its quality and durability - which is alarming considering that this bed is made for children in the first place.
Looks Nice but Broke within Weeks.
