I was looking for a black mirror to hang in my foyer for two years before I found and fell in love with the matte black mirrors. I purchased an oval shaped one for the foyer and was so smitten that I ordered a second 32 round matte black to hang in my study above a chest. Every single day I comment to my husband about how much I love these mirrors. Its become a standing joke for me to find unique ways to tell him. They really are high up on my list of favorite purchases.
It took me a long time to find what I was looking for. I wanted something transitional with a lot of character but classy looking. (My house is a cross between transitional and pieces from my familys farmhouse. It fits my style so well but I think it would equally look in place in a traditional house, a farmhouse, or even with modern decor.) I wanted a mirror that would match my style, but stand out and grab your attention too. So many mirrors Ive looked at have had boring wooden frames that barely stick out past the mirror.
And so, the frame is what I love most about this mirror. The black matte metal is one solid forged piece which surrounds the glass. There arent any joints or welds to the surrounding metal, and it attaches to the rest of the mirror through rivets around the perimeter of the backside (you dont see the rivets because theyre on the back.) The metal is a perfect thickness - very solid looking but not overly big and clunky looking. I love how the mirror is recessed into the back of the metal. This round mirror matches nicely with the style of a modern gunmetal-finished fan with black blades I have in the study.
The round mirror I ordered is 32 in diameter and the frame sticks out from the wall with a depth of 2 (the frame is 1.6 deep). The mirror itself is only .2 thick and sits on a .15 MDF (wood) backing board that has one set of hangers 20.75 apart. The mirror comes with a set of screws and wall anchors. The anchors were really long (almost 2). Youll need to either use the anchors or nail into a stud for sure, because this mirror is heavy (22 pounds). After anchoring it, it feels very sturdy. I dont feel like it will crash down onto the furniture below it.
What else i love about this mirror:
- The workmanship is great. There are no dings, scratches, or dents. I found no places where the metal is more or less coated.
- This product was extremely well packaged. It was encased in several layers of styrofoam and cardboard.
- The mirror came ready to hang with pre-attached hooks on the back and screws/anchors (if you cant find them, dig through the packaging because mine were hidden in there).
- This is rust-proof so it can be hung in a bathroom without worrying about the finish.
- This mirror is very easy to install.
- The price of this mirror for its sturdiness and appearance is so good! My second choice this mirror was something that was two and a half times the price of this, and this mirror has so much more character.
What I dont like as much:
- The only thing that I dont like as much (but its not a huge thing for me) is the glass used in the mirror. There is no beveled edge and it is on the thinner side. Its just slightly wavy if you look at it at the right angle. Most of the time I dont notice. I personally think Id be happy with it just the same if I were using it to apply makeup or do my hair in it. Its not a huge distortion.
I cant say enough how much I like the style of this mirror. In fact, Im thinking of buying two more in different shapes to hang in my sons bath and the guest bath. I have already been teasing my husband about adding mirror hanging to his honey-do list.
Absolutely in love with these mirrors!
