Ive been looking for the Mr. Right mirror for my foyer for two years. (Yes, you read that right.) The vision I had was for something transitional that was classy, sturdy looking, and with a lot of character. My house is kind of a cross between transitional and pieces from my familys farmhouse. I didnt want to settle, so I waited it out until this mirror came along. Ive had this mirror hung for two weeks now and every single time I walk by it I think how much I love it. Not kidding.
What I like most about this mirror is the black matte metal which surrounds the glass. The metal is a solid forged piece the whole way around with absolutely no joints or welds on the outer frame. There are rivets on the back to hold it together (invisible because it is the part that will be against the wall).. The metal is perfect thickness - very solid looking but not overly big and clunky looking- and I love how the mirror is recessed back into the metal. This doesnt look or feel like any of the mirrors Ive seen, and trust me Ive been looking. Most on the market are wood/fake wood that barely come out past the glass.
This oval mirror measures 24 wide x 36 tall at its widest points and the frame sticks out from the wall with a depth of 2. The mirror itself is only .2 thick and sits on a .15 MDF (wood) backing board that has two sets of hangers, suitable for hanging either vertically or horizontally. I chose to hang this horizontally and for me the hangers were 14.5 apart. We needed to use anchors in the wall because this mirror is so heavy (17 pounds). If youre not hanging on a stud, then you will need some extra anchoring (I wouldnt trust it without). After hanging it feels very sturdy, no worries about it crashing to the floor.
What else I love about this mirror:
- The workmanship is great. There are no dings, scratches, or dents. No places where the metal is less coated.
- The mirror was packaged so well with it encased in layers of styrofoam and cardboard.
- The mirror came ready to hang with the pre-attached hooks on the back. Also included were screws (if you cant find them, they may be nestled in some of the packaging).
- The price of this mirror for its sturdiness and appearance is amazing. What a great value! I was looking at mirrors 2-3 times this price and passed on them for this mirror because it has so much more character.
What I dont like as much:
- The only thing that I dont care for as much is the glass used in the mirror. It has no beveled edge and could be thicker; as is it is just slightly wavy if you look at the right angle. I am using this as a decorative mirror, not as a bathroom mirror so its not a huge deal to me.
Overall, I absolutely love this mirror - in fact, I just ordered a second round one to hang in another room. I cant overstate how nice and classy the frame is!
