This review is for the brown/tan (cognac) leather version of the Aiden Tufted Mid-Century sofa, 86.6.
First of all, it is quite amazing to me to receive a couch in the mail. Never would I have imagined this a possibility when I was a younger. Thank you internet! The shipping was not the typical 2 day prime delivery, we still received the couch timely within a week.
After shopping around in stores and online, we found this couch to be the style that we liked (mid-century modern). This is very similar to a model sold by Article.com (Sven), but the couch is a much better price. The biggest difference I found between the Article couch is that the Article couch backing was filled with feathers, but the couch is foam. Not a deal breaker for us, so we opted for the couch that is $400 less money. I read some long-term reviews on the Article couch that the soft plushness of the feathers eventually loses its fill volume, and ended up not keeping good support, so we are fine with the foam filling in the Aiden. One other difference I found was that the bottom seat cushion is not removable with the Aiden, but the Article couch was removable. If that is a deal breaker for you, then dont consider this couch, as the cushion is permanently affixed. Also, the back cushions are not leather on all sides, so this may be another deal breaker for some. The back cushions have a fabric on part of the back side, so you cannot flip the cushions if one side gets trashed. We didnt find any leather couches in this price range that were all leather on all sides of the cushions, so that may be a feature for the next price tiers of leather couches. The foam in the cushions feels not too firm, but not too soft; a nice medium plushness. We bought a soft couch in the past that wore its foam plushness thin after 4 years, so we were glad to have a slightly firmer cushion to hopefully last a longer time.
The wooden framework feels sturdy, and appears like it will last a long time. We recently received the couch, so time will tell. As mentioned by other reviewers, the legs come shipped within the bottom of the couch (see picture with this review). There is a zipper that opens up from the bottom, and the legs are screwed in to a wood panel that is a cross beam in the middle of the couch. After unscrewing them from the hidden compartment, it is very easy to attach the legs to the proper locations (all 4 corners and one middle leg). The legs were the only thing that we had to assemble.
The leather color on our couch closely resembles the picture that was on the website. This is our first leather couch, and from what we can gather, leather colors can vary slightly due to the dying process. The leather feels to be a good quality, and does not appear to be a laminated layer of leather on top of vinyl (as some cheap leather couches are). We plan to use leather conditioner on the couch at least once a year, as others have told us that doing so will keep the color looking better, and make the leather last longer.
If I remember, Ill post an update to this review after weve used it longer. We have two boy toddlers that love to have messy hands, so they will definitely put the couch to the test.
Great couch!
