Overall I'm happy with this bench. It is a good fit for the space I have in my front hall. It's is going to serve the desired purpose of giving people a place to sit while putting on shoes, especially snow boots.
Most of the assembly was easy. Dowels hold about half of it together, with screws and pre-drilled pilot holes holding the other half together. The only place where I had trouble was putting the back of the unit on.
Those screws do NOT have pilot holes drilled, and getting through the white exterior into the wood took some muscle, even with a small power screwdriver. More importantly, getting the screws to go in straight was a challenge, and I actually had one go in at enough of an angle that it chipped a 1/2 piece out of the inside back corner of one of the cubbies. Fortunately, its not really visible, and I think I can repair it, but you'll want to pay close attention to the screw positioning in that last step to avoid making the same mistake.
