Its generally understood that futons tend to be both poor couches and poor beds. This product is, to be clear, a futon. Having read the prior reviews here, I purchased anyway because thinking it would fit my space nicely hoping it might not be as uncomfortable as the other reviews suggest. On the first point, Im happy to report that the couch looks pretty nice and fits my small space well. On the latter, even my low expectations for comfort have been disappointed. Its so uncomfortable that I find it difficult to sit through an entire movie (and hesitate to invite friends over for movies as I fear they will be similarly uncomfortable), and would rather sit at my kitchen table to reach a book than on my couch. The rear cushions offer no support whatsoever (its like theyre filled with 5 pillows from Walmart). In terms of using as a bed, it doesnt sleep any more comfortably than it seats, even with a 2 memory foam topper that I added. The internal support beams have very little padding, making sleeping very comfortable. Finally, the seats are so short that lying down on the couch (without converting into bed mode) leaves knees sticking out in space. Even though it fits my space well and looks nice, Im going to be replacing this couch soon.
