Our 4 year old LOVES this bed. I put it together myself while my husband was at work (so its not hard to follow the directions and put together). The twin size foam mattress we already had for our son fits this bed perfectly. The only negative is that the slates that come with this loft bed are spaced pretty far apart which can cause a foam mattress to save a bit. We ordered a bunkie board to add on top of the slates before the mattress and that resolved that issue.
