Basically no assembly. You open the box, unfold it, screw on the legs and poof, you have a futon that you can either have flat or put up as a chair, and you dont have to do the entire back, you can pick whichever side you want or both. I bought it for my special needs sons bedroom and liked it so much I bought another one for one of the other bedrooms!
