I give this five stars for what it is. Please don’t be misled into thinking you’re buying Stickley or some Amish, heirloom-quality bed. This is a mass produced item for budget-minded folks who need something to work, and survive a house full of kids.
The construction is fairly straightforward, and the instructions do their job. Everything lines up as it should, and it went together with minimal f-bombs (if you buy IKEA you know what I’m talking about). Everything was in the box (if you buy IKEA you know what I’m talking about). The tools supplied were fine, but I did end up using my own tools almost straight away, and recommend having your own tools handy.
We’ve had it now for a couple of months, and it’s holding up quite well. The kids jump on it, gang up to slide it around, turn it into princess castles, forts, and fortified bunkers. They slam themselves into it, and leap off of it. All the connections remain snug, and there is no wiggle when I test it. Only time will truly tell, but for now I’m impressed.
Somehow it has been spared from sharpies and any number of nail polishes so I can’t yet comment on how the finish holds up to harsh chemicals. I feel confident recommending this bunk bed unit to busy parents with lots of kids. It’s definitely freed up floor space in our house, and is so far surviving our tribe. We’ll probably add one more to the compound within the next year.
