Love this bed. It was super easy to put together and looks great. I pull out the trundle at night and this is where the dogs sleep. I bought a XL twin for the top mattress to eliminate big gaps on the ends. The top mattress can be as thick as you like. I bought a regular twin mattress for the trundle. The trundle mattress should be relatively thin so the trundle pushes in easily. These are the two mattresses I purchased. I had to buy a foam topper for the XL as it felt uncomfortable for me without it.
