The daybed and trundle parts and hardware arrive in three rather substantial boxes. They are large, heavy and awkward and I found it easiest to open the boxes carefully in the garage and carry the parts to the room for assembly. There were a few rubs here and there on the finish but not to a degree that takes away from the overall attractive appearance. The directions are well described. There are machined allen bolts that fit into embedded nuts in the furniture. You will need a helper to assemble the frame of the daybed itself, unless you want to rest the bigger panels on cardboard boxes or other support as you align the rear panel, side panels and front crossing frame. The trundle does not require assistance.
The main daybed is about 79 inches long and 39 inches wide on the inside where the mattress sits, which makes for a snug fit for the twin XL mattress. The trundle is standard twin sized.
There was one defective bolt, and a slight defect where the finish did not quite line up where the panels were attached but customer service was very helpful in quickly providing replacement bolts and a cherry stain pen to fill the slight line which was unfinished.
This is an attractive and solid piece of hardwood furniture which we will use for overnight guests and relatives.
