I got this bed to update my 9-year-olds room from a little boys room to the tween hes about to become. His specific request was that he wanted new furniture that would match the rest of the house, which we just finished remodeling in transitional style. From the listing photos, I thought this would let me blend a few new pieces with plain white furniture we already had to achieve the look he wanted.
From a style perspective, this is right on. I also got a desk with similar finishes as this bed, and those two pieces work really well with his white dresser and bookshelf. My son likee that it looks super grown up. And the overall color palette will let us make decor updates as his tastes change without making any more big furniture purchases.
The bed is very sturdy. For my sons weight, its comfortable. Although Im not sure how comfortable it would be, long-term, for a heavier adult. Overall quality is maybe 4-star, because the wood accent piece does look a little chintzy and will probably scratch pretty easily.
My husband assembled this. Hes our resident expert in such things. There wasnt any excessive grumbling coming from his direction as he assembled this, so I take that to mean assembly is pretty straightforward. When I asked him about it, he just shrugged and said, It was fine. Super helpful, I know.
As other reviewers have noted, this bed is slightly narrower than a standard-sized twin. We needed to order a new mattress to update our younger sons room from a toddler bed anyway, so we ordered a narrow mattress for this bed instead and will use the old one for the little guy. So the fact that this bed was slightly narrower than normal wasnt a huge, big deal for us. But it is definitely worth noting, especially if you are intending to buy this bed without specifically purchasing a narrower mattress to use with it.
Our new mattress is on the way, and in the meantime, my son is using his old mattress with this new bed. Its fine, in that you cant really tell once the blankets are on the bed that the mattress is just slightly wider than the frame. And its not uncomfortable for him, but he only weighs 65ish pounds. As a permanent solution for a heavier human, it seems to me this might be uncomfortable, especially when getting into and out of the bed.
I will update my review with photos of the standard twin and new, narrower mattress, when the new one arrives. I figure, its probably helpful to show the difference. In the meantime, just be advised that this frame is slightly narrower than a standard twin size.
Sturdy, but narrower than standard
