This stool is as strong and sturdy as advertised. I would trust its claim for bearing weight. It is completely unusable as a chair or stool for a large person, because the seat dimensions are for a child or a very small adult. Being both large and heavy, my posterior is more like 24, so fitting even one side of my bottom into the seat was painful. At the time I purchased the seat, several months ago, only the medium size was available, so this is for the 11 x 10-inch seat. Even the 14 seat would not be comfortable. I DO use the stool to hold my CPAP machine while traveling, and my 8 year old granddaughters can use it when we play outdoors. Extremely well-constructed stool.
