Padded? Well - minimally, and mostly in places it doesnt matter - like on the seat bottom and back. The only padding which will make any noticeable improvement to comfort is the very thin padding around the bars supporting the backrest. That said - it is a comfortable and well made chair, and the insulated pocket on the right hand side (large enough for a couple of sandwiches or a couple of cans of coke) is a great idea. The X-Large version I have is large enough for all but the most ample of frames, and even for the rest of us - the greater width means that the front bars which cross dont dig into the sides of your thighs unlike some smaller chairs. Especially if youre partial to a little manspreading at the beach. I think on balance, the mesh version with a bit more ventilation might be the better choice. Ultimately though, its good value, and well worthy of consideration. Even normal sized people might want to consider going large on this occasion.
