The three-tier style is a bit unusual - and attractive
Rather than being a single piece of fabric as most umbrellas are, this version has three rings of fabric. I don't know whether this is an optical illusion - i.e. one fabric with strategic "slices" - or if indeed they are three separate pieces of cloth.
No matter. However it is made, the overlapping concentric rings gives, in my opinion, a pleasingly "different" look to this item. I like it. I wondered whether the slats will allow rain to come through. Perhaps it will, especially if it is windy and the separate pieces might flap apart ever so much. But I know I don't tend to sit poolside during a rainstorm, so really, it is of no consequence to me whether this is actually a rain-worthy umbrella. Once we've been through a few rain storms, I can give an update to this review.
what this umbrella DOES do is give quite adequate shade from the sun - which for me is its primary use. While a person beneath the umbrella can tell there are slits between the rings, it does not allow light to come through - or if you can see a slit of sky from time to time, it is not nearly enough to be a distraction or otherwise fail to filter out the sunlight.
Overall, I get a kick out of this umbrella's style and am proud to show it off to friends and family. Five worthy stars.
