If you are shopping for this type bed, READ THIS REVIEW. I bought 3 of these. Bright white finish, excellent paint job, wood thicker than expected, very sturdy, not too difficult to assemble, trundle slides out easily, pictures on site are representative of the style, but not the color. Only negative is there are not plastic covers for the bolt holes. I will probably dab some white paint on the shiny silver bolt heads (on the sides of the bed) so they are not noticeable.
On the other reviews, here are my comments. Yes, the XL twin mattress on the top fits snuggly and eliminates any gaps. For the trundle mattress, the XL twin mattress is too long, so use a regular length and not more than 7 thickness (with an 8 thickness, the trundle wont slide in or out without lifting up the bed). There was no noticeable odor with the bed or slats - maybe they eliminated that issue in later production. The slats are not thick, but they are numerous - more slat than gap. I suppose if a 200 + person is jumping on the bed, then the slats could break, but they seem strong enough for sleeping. There is nothing flimsy about the wood or construction.
I shopped different sites for this type bed and lucked out buying this one.
