The package was rather heavy, but the assembly was rather easy with the step by step instructions. I will really recommend having someone to help you. I put it together in about 2 1/2 hours by myself. With help can probably cut that down to 1 1/2 hours. It is surprisingly sturdy, my 8 and 11 year old boys sleep on it just fine. The steps on the ladder are a little thin but my son is small enough still that they dont really hurt his feet.
