Overall love this bunk bed set for my two boys, ages 11 and 9.
Positives: Came in 5 big boxes on a pallet. All boxes were double boxed to prevent damage. All materials inside the boxes were very well packaged. Some were wrapped in foam sheets, some in paper, some had cardboard separators and there were extra foam blocks (very well done). Assemble was pretty straightforward and simple. I did it mostly myself with a few assists from wife and kids occasionally (and neighbor when it came time to lift the top bed up to its position) in about 6 hours. The wood was all in good shape with a good paint job. Instructions were mostly clear and easy to follow. Loved how they labeled each piece with little grocery store stickers with numbers on them. At first I was pissed that I'd have to take all of them off each piece and that they'd leave a sticky residue, but they actually thought enough to place the stickers on the joints so they would not be seen once assembled. Brilliant!!!
Negatives: The wood seems a little soft and I'm expecting that the kids will ding it up pretty quickly. Color was a little bit lighter gray than the picture seemed to indicate. I'd call it gun gray or almost silver. Dowels used for initial connections were a little weak and there were no extras supplied. 1 or two of the instructions weren't quite clear and caused me to have to take apart and redo the top bunk. Would like to have seen another set of screws to screw each support slat down to the support beam on the top bunk. Would also like to have seen a support beam for the bottom bunk, but there isn't one (perhaps to make room for the drawers or trundle if you ordered it). One side piece to one of the drawers split when I screwed in the rail. Need to wood glue, clamp, let set overnight, pre-drill, and then re-assemble it tomorrow. Also one set of dowels its corresponding and pre-drilled holes didn't line up very well (the back pieces to the stairs), so I had to sand down the dowels to get them to fit.
Overall: Very pleased with this purchase!
Really like this unit. Very sturdy, which is important for safety. It took a few hours to assemble, but was not difficult. Just a lot of parts to put together. Instructions were spot on, so it was easy. Everything was packaged well - it came in two boxes (both arrived at the same time.) One person can assemble the beds (which I did) even though it calls for two. You do need two people to lift the upper bed onto the lower bed as the final step.
pros
- great price, hard to beat for a bunk bed with trundle
- looks great
- lots of fun for kids
- completely solid pine, no MDF garbage unlike ones you get at Ikea
- the trundle slides out nicely and provides extra sleeping area; you can use it as storage instead if you like
cons
- assembly can be difficult unless you're handy, make sure you read instructions and use the right screws for each part they tell you; I messed up and had to redo some of the screws twice, was my own fault, they look similar, not fool proof; can easily take 4hrs to unpack and assemble esp if 1 person to do all work
- some smell from the finish, can take 3d+ to clear
- the 4 post rods for stacking the beds look cheap, it's just wood pegs, not rods which is standard at least in the old days it was; this is my main criticism of the bed; I would rather pay more for it to come with rods. I added brackets to add extra support to all ends of each rail on upper bed and where 4 posts join with lower headboard; this stabilize the bed esp since both my kids want to play at upper bed same time; you're not supposed to have more than 1 child on upper bed; also the brackets provide extra insurance should the rail end part break off from headboard. To be fair, the protective rails of the upper bed and plus the ladder provide further support
- protective rails on upper bed that prevent a child from falling should be raised higher, I plan to add extra wood piece to make it higher
overall, great bunk bed, great value, hard to beat. I don't mind paying more if it came with rods, and plus prefer thicker rails and thicker posts for the headboards. I added corner foam pieces to prevent head bumps. For the mattress, I use 5 inch thick foam beds.
whatever bed you choose, make sure you want it before ordering, because once you unpack, trying to return can be a nightmare since it's so heavy and so many parts. Also check all screws once a month, since they could get loose if kids shake it.
Love this piece! Great, sturdy piece of furniture. The best part is the amount of storage for clothes and toys. This is a great solution to apartment living. My boys can now enjoy the extra space and play in their room

Very well designed!
Only thing I might change is better verbal instructions along with pictures on stairs!! Grandchildren are going to love it!
Not easy to put together but worth the price.
When we finally got it together it's a very sturdy piece of furniture.
Well designed and very sturdy
Assembly institutions were clear and easy to follow.
This was worth the purchase
