    Dont make my mistake.

These chairs are genuinely nice, they have an excellent heavy feel, the hardware is solid, and the look is great. You will be putting these together BTW, with the supplied Allen wrench, screws, wood pegs and then the finish caps...oh joy. However, truly not as bad as the Sauder cabinets we used to put together in the 90s. Just DO NOT put the little cosmetic buttons in that cover the screw head until the VERY last. I put them in when I finished one side, and when I flipped it over to finish the other side, I had a wobble and needed to tighten up the screws, only I had already put the buttons in. I used to a thin knife to pry them out, but they flaked and cracked, etc. Just be patient and save the buttons for last after you are sure everything is tight.

Added Edition to Our Breakfast Bar

The Classic Solid Wood Saddle-Seat Counter Stools with Foot Plate arrived with an easy to understand direction booklet. All the necessary parts were supplied. While directions were easy to follow you will need some muscle power to get all the screws totally into the correct holes. I was surprised that I was able to put both stools together without any help from my husband. But I did have tender palms for a day or two. The stools are made of solid wood and are very sturdy once put together. I like the footplate as it helps balance anyone whose legs are short. The only concern I had is that several places on one of the stools were shaved done to bare wood on the edges of the legs. Because the stools are a jet black the raw wood is very obvious. It is not something that you can hide with a magic marker so I am going to have to find a black paint that matches.

Low profile bar seats - could be easier to put together

The installation screws were hex heads, so hard to put together without a lot of brute force - especially around the seat area. Once installed, make sure the bar seat is placed so that the foot rest with the metal cover is the obvious choice for folks when taking a seat, or shoes will quickly fray the non-metal covered foot bar. Would be a better design to have both foot rests with metal on top. Seats are comfortable for short term sitting -- either lengthwise or turning it 90 degrees and sitting straddle. Love that these seats fit under our counter, as prior seats stuck out in traffic and were constantly in the way.

Attractive, Easy to Assemble, Great to Add to Any Bar Area/Kitchen

The Classic Solid Wood Saddle Seat Stools are a beautiful pair of well made stools. The wood on the stools are smooth without knotholes or blemishes, and the black color is uniformly painted. The stools were easy to assemble and had all the tools required (a single hex key). If you have a hex key set with a larger handle, it will be easier to assemble as the screws included are a bit stiff when being screwed in. The instructions to assemble were pretty self explanatory and I had no trouble assembling both stools myself. The only issue I had with assembly is that the wooden screw covers were loose in a two of the holes and instead of going into the screw holes snugly, they pushed all the way in. This did leave a sort of hole on the legs of the stools, but its not awful enough where Id lose sleep over it (it occurred on one of the eight screw openings on each stool). Just be careful when pushing some of those pegs in as some will be difficult to get in and others will shoot in and will show some of the unfinished wood. The screw cover issue aside, the stools look great and add a little extra seating to your kitchen/bar area. Overall, these are solidly made stools that look pretty good - theyre worth getting if youre looking to get a pair of saddle seat stools.

Pretty much exactly what we needed

Built a new house and needed stools for under the lip of our kitchen island. The island is all one height, typical 36 inch kitchen height, so a 24 inch tall stool works our just fine. Being a foot on the narrow dimension helps it fit entirely under the overhang, and the 16 inch width makes it pretty comfortable on your bottom. Assembly is pretty straight forward, though the screws are on the low quality side, so I replaced them with better and it made it much easier to assemble and more sturdy. The finish is where these fall a bit short, in that it is uneven and hard for me to tell if it is black, brown, or a really dark grey. A coat of paint or a clear coat goes a long way to making them look better. For the price being listed they are a very good value if they fit your needs.

Sturdy, Attractive and a Good Value

My Black Counter Stool 2-pack arrived well packaged and in good condition. Each individual piece was wrapped within a thin foam sheet that protected the paint, and the surrounding cardboard box was thick and sturdy. The instructions are simple and straightforward with large drawings that make orienting the parts easy. Each stool consists of only 5 parts: the seat, the left and right leg assemblies, and the front and back foot rests. The top of the front foot rest is clad with what appears to be stainless steel - a nice touch. You assemble the stools by driving allen-head wood screws into pre-drilled holes. A hex key (4mm) is included to drive the screws but I found it slow and somewhat difficult to turn them with this small hex key. If your personal tool kit includes a 4mm T-handle hex key, the stools will come together faster. After assembly, black plastic plugs are inserted into the holes to conceal the screw heads and self-adhesive felt pads are attached to the leg bottoms. These stools are very sturdy and the black and stainless color combo is pleasing. They are a good value.
