This item is decent and my 4 year old daughter does LOVE it. For the price, not sure how much you can expect. Putting it together was a cumbersome job. I put it together myself but it took upwards of 4 hours even with a cordless impact to speed the process up. Just unpacking everything took nearly a half hour. But I suggest getting it all out first and organized giving yourself LOTS of room.
Now the review. First off the directions are pretty good. Although they do not say when to actually tighten anything down. If you tighten everything down as you go you will have problems with things lining up. The tolerances are not really up to par when assembling. Many pieces I really had to work at to get the holes to line up or at lease get a bolt started. Some of the pieces where a little bowed but did go into place as I tightened them down. All the bolts are Allen Head and are very soft so the heads will strip very easily. Some bolts thread into a sort of sleeve that is pressed into the piece you are assembling. On one of the main legs, on of these sleeves was missing so there was just a hole in the leg with nothing to thread to so I needed to request a new leg. There are locking cams for the wood drawers. Much like any furniture that use these cams, they are very fragile. I had 5 break when tightening.
Overall, you get what you pay for. Its more work than you might think but granted you get it all together and with all the pieces in tact, it is pretty solid. The biggest issue is just assembly.
I got this bed as an early Christmas present. Being too old for my princess palace bed, after I looked around some, I decided on this loft bed.
The shipping was faster than expected, and the box was a little torn, but that was expected. Once we opened the box, we saw the wood was just as expected, the same color brown as in the picture, maybe a little nicer looking. The instructions seemed to be pretty clear, and we were able to construct it (with 3 people) in about 2 to 3 hours. the ladder was sturdy, and when I got up it didnt wobble at all, or I couldnt feel it wobbling AT ALL, which was surprising, since there was about 80 pounds total on the bed, I THINK. anyways, there was the mattress, me, blankets, and a pile of stuffed animals. I could sit up in it, and the area below the bed provided lots of room, and hanging sheets around the bottom part provided a hideout to do homework, journal, and just self/relax time. There was no paint smell and it smelled like nice pure wood, exactly what it was.
We purchased this a few months ago for a spare bed for our guests. Its perfect since our house doesnt have much room and our small children can still sit and play and store their toys underneath it. My mom stayed with us for a few months and this was her bed and she had no issues with it.
Wonderful loft bed. We were looking into reasonably priced twin/sized loft beds for our just/turned 5 year old who had outgrown his toddler bed. I looked into a few twin beds. Like many people, we were trying to find something that allowed us to save some space. I first looked at a few platform storage beds which were a great option but the few under 300 had mixed reviews about being cheap. I would imagine many are made with composite/like wood that would chip away over time, especially when you have an energetic 5 year/old bouncing on it all the time. Loft beds grabbed my attention next which allowed us to store items underneath including smaller drawer chests which would be great. After researching a few I chose to go with the Junior Loft one. It had wonderful reviews online and sturdiness was constantly mentioned, which a big concern. I love that it held a standard sized twin mattress, that it was too high off the ground (30 to the base of the bed or so), that the side rails were fairly high to accommodate the height of a mattress (side rails are 15 high so that mattresses ranging from 6/10 would still leave room for the side rails to be relevant) and storage steps. Storage is minimal but anything helps. Steps were a big plus because I didnt want our little guy to get up in the middle of the night for a bathroom run and have to worry about going down a ladder, like many loft beds have. The steps are easy and there is a rail there as well which is perfect for a middle/of/the/night/half asleep trip to the bathroom or mommy and daddys room. Seemed like winner so I ended up ordering it (not from ).
Arrived in a large box. I would say 80 x 8 x 18 and just shy of 100lbs. FedEx guy was nice enough to lug it up our 28 step staircase at our entrance. Lots of parts. As with most of my assembly jobs, I started out by taking everything out of their packaging. There are lots of foam and cardboard within the large box. Two packs of hardware and a few flat boxes for the storage steps assembly. I was glad I had all the pieces as a few prior reviews of missing pieces had me a bit worried. I have read that the assembly takes 3/4 hours for one person and thats about right. I took 3 hours. Remember that the total length of the unit is 92 so, if you plan to assemble it in a smaller space like I did (about 110) know that you will have to maneuver yourself quite a bit to get into certain angles during the assembly. The units big (you can see all the dimensions on the website) so assembling it in another room and bringing it into the intended room would probably not work unless you have double doors leading into the room.
Assembly now was pretty straight forward. To make your like easier I would recommend an electric drive with an angled head and a hex bit. I attached a hex bit to a rachet manual screwdriver which did the job, but was a bit awkward in many cases since you are driving screws that are close to straight beams, so you have little to no room to straightly drive the screw. See my pic of the screwdriver to see what I mean. Also, I know many assembly instructions are against power tools, but a low powered angled ratchet driver is more than safe with this. Its metal, so you dont have to worry about wood/composite chipping. Also the screws heads held pretty well. I think if you dare assemble the entire thing with the small allen key provided (4 or so) you will take 4/5 hours and good bless your fingers afterward.
Minor things; one of the woods pieces were missing drilled holes in order to tight them; once wooden pieces indentation was not cut completely from the factory so a metal bar could not fit right (see photo). Keep in mind that in order to have pieces completely connect to one another you may have to loosen previously tightened screws, just an FYI.
Upon completion I was happy with the bed. It is very sturdy and I was glad I decided to go with a metal frame. Storage steps are a little off (see photo) due to the mis/cut factory wooden piece, but sturdy as there are tons of other screws holding the steps assembly in place. Little annoyances like posts not fitting flush without hammering the heck out of it in place is not enough for me to even take away a full star. Nothing wobbles or shakes. I ordered a foam 8 mattress for it that should be coming soon and I will try to update my review once it comes in.
I love it, everything about it, if only it could somehow have arrived fully assembled and in my daughters room. I estimate that on my own I could have assembled it in ~3 hours, but with the eager help of my 5 year old that stretched into about 5 hours. The rail for the big drawer at the base had the little connector ring that would bolt to the arm piece (Z I think) shorn off. I made due for now and for the most part she doesnt use that drawer regularly. I have covered up the sharp bits with some glue/foam. Other than that, this bed is aming.
The first night that it was ready to sleep in she wanted me (~170lbs) to read to her in bed. I know it is rated for 225lbs and she is barely 40lb. It didnt squeak, or rock or give any indication that it was having issues supporting the both of us.
Add in the fact that sells compatible curtain sets and that there is plenty of space under the bed, it really means that, at least if youre a kid, youre not losing much square footage.
Bought this bed for my 2 grandsons room at my house. I would have given it 4 stars, but there was a defective part and there were not enough of one size of screws. It definitely takes two people to put it together. There are many parts. It went along really well at first, everything labeled well and directions were very clear. Then boom/when my husband and I were almost finished we ran into the defective part. Fortunately he is very savvy at making things work out. My grandsons love the bed. It is a good height and very sturdy. We have a trundle on the bottom. The top rail could be a little higher but its ok. Because of the price, I would probably purchase it again.
Great bedVery sturdyMy three year old loves his new high up giant bed replacing his toddler bed. It doesnt feel so high that he is scared, and I feel confident enough that unless he literally dove off head/first, any injury from an inevitable horseplay fall would be mild (I am not delusional. He is a wild boy, so I know eventually he will jump on this bed despite my warnings and will fall, but for now hes doing great). With a thin mattress (I believe the one we got was 5 or 6) and no box spring, the side guard rails are perfect protection height. The stairs feel much safer than a ladder for someone his age who still does a lot of sleep squirming, and easier for him to navigate up and down in the dark when he needs to get out of bed to harass me.
It is supportive enough to hold the weight of two average sized adults (140/180 lbs each) + the three year old at once, as all three of us have snuggled up in it for story time without so much as it shifting under our weight, and under/bed section is awesome for a fort, storage, or a second mattress for sleepovers.
My only honest complaint would be the same complaint I will have for any loft bed ever, which is that changing the sheets is not the easiest task in the world. Fortunately, the mattress I got is foam and very foldable, so I can actually lift it up and pull the sheets over, but 9 times out of 10, I still have to get up on the bed to make it. No big deal for me, but it can be frustrating when wrangling a wild preschooler and trying to quickly change sheets after a MOTN potty accident or something. That would be the only possible selling point for me for a standard twin bed, versus this cool loft. I always wanted bunk beds or a loft bed as a kid, but my parents said no, so naturally I am my own dreams vicariously through my child. Worth it.
Solid, sturdy, looks great, and a very reasonable price. When one of the pieces of wood was dented by UPS in shipping, Modern Spaces shipped out a replacement piece free of charge even though they were not at fault. Great customer service and a great bed!

Great options for big kids.
