Has a TOXIC smell found out the partical board has been treated w/formaldehyde. My 4 yr woke up after sleeping on it 1 night with a HORRIBLE headache. Very disappointed since it had to be put together and now taken apart to send back. What a time consuming purchase.
Start with the good. All parts came with the bed and the instructions for assembly were really good. It also came within a week. Its really great for a space saver (small room) and has lots of storage and shelves for my child.
Now the bad.
1. A few damaged spots as you can see in the pictures.
2. Right at the top of the stairs there is a very sharp corner that your kid will easily cut their head on. This needs to be rounded by the factory. Serious miss on their part during engineering. My daughter scraped her stomach the first time coming down the ladder. (picture 2). I am still trying to figure out how to fix without ruining the bed.
3. The ladder rungs are very hard on my daughters feet so I had to make an adjustment and add the flat pieces to make it more like stairs. I included my retro fit in a picture. (picture 3) It was killing her feet to the point she didnt like her brand new bed.
4. The ladder rungs original are so hard that the screws they provided broke right away so I had to get my own and pre drill the holes.
5. The desk section pulls out but its got a safety catch on it that a young child cant figure out so I have to put it back every time.
I am a senior citizen and put this bed together by myself. It took me some time to get it done but the directions were great. I love the six drawers...dont need a dresser. Most of it is laminated plywood which helps keep the price down.
I am very happy with this purchase! It was a Christmas gift for my 3yo as she transitioned to a big girl bed. It was super easy to assemble alone (with small child underfoot and being 34 weeks pregnant to boot!). The instructions are very clear, but I recommend separating and labeling the hardware because even though the instructions have which to use clearly labeled, some are smaller/bigger versions of the same thing and you dont want to waste time figuring it out in the middle of the build.
Though the wood it solid, the frame is a bit wobbly so I made some small customizations. Lastly, the wood smell is pretty strong so next time I would let it air out in my garage a couple days.
I absolutely do not like how the instructions are written, the screws arent organized or labeled and the measurements are confusing. Otherwise, the item is nice for children.
This bed is awesome! Surprised my toddler with her big girl bed for Christmas and it was a hit. The bed frame was easy to put together as a two man job. The bed was able to withstand my weight and my toddlers weight with no problem. Didnt have the shakes or wobbles. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
Easy to assemble as all tools as provided... took longer to build than expected - probably much faster with two people... let the wood rest indoors for at least a week to remove most of the strong pine smell - a good air purifier would be of help as well doing the week... very satisfied with my purchase
First of all, plan the entire day to assemble this. Also, if you bought this because you dont have room for anything bigger, then spend a few minutes thinking about how you will get it all screwed together. Its easiest if you can walk all the way around the outside during assembly, but we were working in tight quarters.
The finished product is too short for an adult or teenager to sit under (on the floor) comfortably.
You might also find it useful to know that it comes in three boxes. The long box (7 feet 2 inches) has the bed parts. The flattest box (it looks like it might contain a really big framed picture) has the desk and the short bookshelf. The most normal of them all contains the dresser. You can assemble the dresser all by itself, without opening the other two boxes. But the other two are related, because the desk cant stand up by itself, and as other reviewers have mentioned, you have to put the desk in before you screw down the bed slats on that side of the bed. Each box weighs 60 or 70 pounds, adding up to about 200 pounds total. The long box needs a pickup truck if you have to drive it home from your shipping address. The other two will fit inside a minivan or station wagon.
Heres the main disappointment: Before assembling the dresser (which we did first), we swept the hardwood floor to make sure it was clean. But halfway through, we realized that the espresso paint had been scratched in multiple places just by gently sliding pieces across the clean floor. While there were a few pieces with small dings right out of the box (in places that turned out not to be visible when it was assembled), Im pretty sure those scratches werent there when we opened the box. So before doing the rest, we swept and damp-mopped the floor, plus we put down a soft cloth. This worked better, but it still wasnt good enough. The front corner of the desk top ended up with a couple of deep scratches. s seems to market this primarily for little kids, so it was surprising that they used such a fragile paint. Maybe the other colors have a harder finish.
We couldnt be happier with this bed. We purchased this for our 4yr old who transitioned from a toddler bed. His bedroom isnt the biggest so a loft was a great way to imize space. I was nervous about some of the reviews that mentioned quality/sturdiness and assembly but usually take those with a grain of salt anyway. The instructions were pretty straightforward and it took my husband and It took just about 2 hours to assemble. The quality is very comparable to the price. While the wood isnt top quality, It is durable and sturdy and we have no hesitation at all for our little dudes safety. The lower loft feel like an appropriate height for his age. Not too high but still super cool for him. The space underneath is the perfect size for a book nook, fort or play area. So many possibilities! Would definitely recommend.
