Super happy with this loft. We shopped around for a LONG TIME before settling on this loft for our 11/year/old daughter. We bought it to make space in her bedroom for a new desk, which fits under it perfectly. Its a very basic loft (no drawers or shelving like many high/end lofts), but its also very sturdy. Assembly is required Not difficult, but better with two people. We made sure all bolts, etc., were good and tight while assembling. The loft hardly moves/shifts while our daughter is climbing in and out of it, and it doesnt squeak at all. Its high enough that our daughter can sit down at her desk with ease, but my husband and I have to keep our heads ducked to walk under it (Im 57). Its also low enough that our daughter can sit up in bed without hitting her head on the ceiling. We got a memory foam mattress for the bed since the mattress on the old bed was too heavy and thick This loft is definitely NOT for pillowtop or thick mattresses. Our daughter likes the memory foam mattress, though She says its actually more comfortable than her old bed. The only drawback we notice in the lofts design is that the ladder is rather narrow. However, our daughter can still move up and down it with ease.
This loft is also very heavy and the box it comes in is very long. We were able to carry it into the house from where it was delivered (on our front porch), but it was a bit of a struggle. The box was definitely heavier than our sofa, and too big/long for our hand truck to handle. If at all possible, try to have the box delivered/brought into the room where you want the loft to be. It will save you a lot of trouble.
Weve had this bed for about 3 years. I got it to double as a jungle gym during the winter, and it has withstood such abuse of my now 5 and 7 year old well. Weve used it with dofferent sized beds in different configurations underneath lots of options. I like the added security of no ladder hole both myself at 31 and my son at 2 had no problems entering or exiting. I did brace the bed to the wall for added stability given that my kids use the bottom like monkey bars. I only wish I were short enough to do the same! Its been a while since assembly but I did it on my own in the company of toddlers and dont remember it being terribly difficult. We got the white one, and the openness of the structure comboned with the color help limit the visual weight in a small room. I also love that the ladder is flush with the unit, frewing up more floor space, and is along the end, resulting in a very wide opening underneath. Definitely accomplishes the job of efficiently maximizing a small room.
