Beds arrived in several boxes. Took about two hours to put together / very easy to follow the directions, though there are quite a few parts and steps. Take your time and youll have no trouble. We set these up as a bunk bed and theyre very sturdy. The top bunk is not as high as some of the other beds we considered / a selling point for younger kids. The finish is excellent and the items were well protected in the shipping boxes. Recommended!
First of all, I rated this product a solid 5if I could have given a rating of 10, I would have! The price is great, and the bed is very easy to assemble. My husband did the majority of the assembly by himself. Color is true to picturegreat dark color. The allen wrench tool is a little hard on the fingers so if you have your own allen wrench, we would recommend using your own. Once the bed is put together, it is VERY sturdy. It does not wobble or shake. One thing we noticed was the placement of the screw holes in the bottom bunk as it relates to the ladder. We followed the instructions, but didnt realize that we had the bottom bunk turned around until after we had affixed the ladder to the top bunk. This turned out to be an easy fix, but I would recommend anyone else ensure the holes are in proper placement prior to affixing the ladder.
My husband and I found these beds fairly simple to assemble; the boards are all clearly labeled, the hardware comes in clearly marked, easy/open packages, and an Allen/key is included/ though, I would recommend having a power drill available for the Phillips/head screws. With help from our two/ and four/year/old children we got these put together in about two hours. As some other reviewers have noted, there is a little back/tracking necessary in the assembly, specifically, removing some of the mattress supports for installation of the ladder. We also skipped ahead to the ladder before putting on the middle safety rail support on the ladder side, because the holes for the support arent pre/drilled. If youre slightly mechanically inclined, you should have no problem.
The packaging indicates these beds are for children six years or older, but my 2/y.o. daughter and 4/y.o. son are quite adept at climbing into the bottom bunk and up the ladder to the top. I dont see any mention of this age restriction in the listing, but its moot to us, as our kids are always up for a challenge.
The finish is a fairly dark brown, which I like, and the pieces fit together well, with no unfinished edges visible. As noted in the title, when assembled as bunk beds or free standing, they are quite sturdy. I can stand on the footboard slats and reach into the top bunk without a wiggle from the frame.
All/in/all, I would definitely recommend these beds to anyone looking for bunk/beds.
This bed arrived today. It took me an easy 2 hours to assemble. I used a cordless drill to speed up the process. It was very, very simple to assemble. Probably the easiest piece of furniture i have ever assembled. You will need at least a philips screw driver, but a cordless drill made it effortless. The directions were clear.
There was no damage do to shipping. The finish to the bed is very pleasing. It is 100 real wood. No fiber board or plywood.
The box is long and heavy, as should be expected. I carried it by myself, but it is really a two person job.
It is very sturdy. It should last for years and years of use. Like all wood furniture, Im sure if it is abused it will break.
The ladder is a little slick due to the beds nice finnish.I will be adding some gripping tape to it.
I could not be more pleased. A similar bed in a furniture store would cost twice as much.
LOTS of pieces,but worth it after assembly. Everything well aligned and easy to build,but make sure you have a cordless drill with a good clutch so as to not over tighten the screws and strip them out, and a hex bit(metric) that fits the screw heads. supplied a wrench to tighten the screws,but youd be at it all day w/o the drill.

Bought the Espresso instead of the Cherry as it was 100 cheaper(Bought 2 sets). Color is not too dark and looks classy. All 4 beds feel very sturdy after assembly.
I added 3 slats to the 7 provided per bed as Adults will be sleeping on these occasionally. The 10 slats are now about 5.25 inches apart. Bought 1x3s at HDepot .Also added 1 Luan Plywood as a Bunky Board that was probably not necessary but I screwed them to the slats to further stiffen it.
Result is a very sturdy 2 sets of Bunkbeds that are rated at 250lbs each bed and that look and work.
Had one of the rails with a crack in a Knot all the way to the outside of the rail, so called the WE number and they have already shipped the replacement. A PERSON from AMERICA answered the call and helped me with NO hassle. These beds are made in Vietnam and show pride of Manufacturing and packaging. Fabulous Buy.
First off, the packaging was damaged and there were parts missing out of the box. Since the bed comes in one box, instead of 2 or 3, it weighs a lot. For that reason whichever side the shipper lays the box, especially if they handle it roughly, will most likely will damage the box and parts inside it. Because of the damaged to the box the parts inside were moving around freely denting each other. The wood was dented in many different places making the bed look like it has been used for several years. The construction is not so bad but its not great either, I would probably give the construction 3.5 stars out of 5.
The instructions are pretty good and 2 people can assemble the bed in about an hour or 2, depending on how mechanical savvy you are.
The slots of the bed base are spaced far apart making each bed only use 7 pieces and that will not work very well with rubber/latex mattresses. I had to use all 14 pieces on the bottom portion and IKEA ones on the top.
The ladder is very slippery, having the same lacquer finish as the rest of the furniture. The steps are way too wide for little kids hands to grab them comfortably and safely. They are not round but rectangular with sharp edges (an inch high and 2 5/8 inches deep). My son almost fell off, climbing off the top, and I had to catch him.
Real wood no particle board, pretty quick and easy to put together, but one needs to squeeze the long side boards together when screwing in the slats. The posts are solid 2X2 but the horizontal pieces are thin and held together by 2 bolts per corner. I wouldnt recommend jumping on it or anything rambunctious that kids are inclined do / it will NOT hold up if stressed by abuse. Im sure nobody is inclined to play pirates with their bunk bed. you will be the one going when the bed cant take it. Again, its a good enough bed, but probably wont stand up to much kid stress beyond sleeping in it.
The other issue is that the box is HEAVY, rated as a 2 person team lift, and not at all well padded. Looks like UPS put an ooPS in ours / our UPS route has only one driver. The manufacturer should definitely re/think their packaging strategy. Two LIGHTER boxes would be better. Got some economy mattresses from BigLots because of the feedback on chemical smells/problems in foam mattresses / thanks all for that.
I just finished putting 2 sets of these together. On the plus side, the wood was solid, nicely finished, and not warped or twisted. The directions were easy to understand.
On the negative side: heres a list of the tools I needed to assemble these beds: a drill press; a chop saw; a drill/driver and appropriate bits; 8mm, 6mm, 4mm drill bits; ratcheting screwdriver; a saddle square; a center punch; a 4 clamp, an 8 clamp, a very sharp chisel, and a good portable vacuum.
The headboards and footboards went together very easily. The 4 clamp just makes it easier. You can hold the pieces together while driving the hardware. Now the fun begins. To join a headboard to a footboard you use a 2 piece connector. A bolt goes into the head or footboard hole and the mating piece has a hole driven at 90 degrees into which you insert a barrel nut. Most of these went in just fine, but there were a few where the barrel nut hole was not deep enough. Sometimes it was due to chips and dust not being extracted (get out the vacuum) and sometimes they were not driven deep enough (get out the 8mm bit). Once there was a hole where there shouldnt have been one and no hole where there should have. (Drill press, because it was in a leg and required a deep, straight, 90 degree hole.) The most problems I had involved attaching the ladder. When you put the bed slats where the directions tell you, they interfere with placing the fasteners for the ladder. You need to chop off corners of the slats (chop saw). And even then you may have to hand chisel more tolerance to drive the fasteners home. Even then, some holes for ladders did not even come close to matching the holes in the joining boards. I was able to get a couple in, but I had to drill the rest.
The process was frustrating and exhausting, but the final product is sturdy, solid, and I have no worries about having my grandchildren sleep in them. But its not for the weekend handyman.
I would probably give this bed 4 1/2 stars if I could. But its definitely closer to 5 than to 4!
I love this bed. I have been considering and looking for several months for beds for my 3/ and 5/year/olds when it occurred to me that we could just buy a bunk bed and use it as two beds! Then, if we decide to turn it into a bunk bed later, we can. I wanted a bed that was sturdy, but not too expensive, and that would match the nightstand in their room. After reading a lot of reviews on other beds, we decided to go with this one.
The bed arrived quickly because we live in Utah (it shipped from Salt Lake) and arrived in a day. The box was HEAVY, but my husband brought it in with a dolly.
My husband assembled it without any trouble. My girls were able to help him and he was able to get both beds done in two evenings (after work and before kiddos go to bed). He didnt have any major issues and it was helpful that he had good power tools to help move the project along more quickly. He did have to finish assembling it in the girls room because their doorway wasnt quite wide enough to bring the assembled single beds in.
I have two small complaints, and I read other people mention these as well. 1, it DID smell a little bit like varnish. We put an air purifier in their room, though, and it took care of the smell in about 3 days. Airing out the room would probably have worked, too (but it was too smoky outside to open windows). 2, the slats WERE a little far apart. Id suggest either a bunkie board, a piece of plywood, or having a couple more slats made to go in the bed. We chose the later and with the two extra slats, they were spaced about 6 inches apart.
I love the storage space under the beds! I can put boxes under there for stuffed animals or clothes, AND my girls can fit under there without getting stuck (yeah, I gave up on trying to keep my kids from hiding under the bed). Theres probably 15 or 16 inches of space. Its really great. And again, I love that the bed is sturdy. And its really beautiful. The color is between the espresso (the color we ordered) and cherry, so it ended up perfect for us.
For 160 per bed vs. 500 per bed at the store, this was definitely a big win for us. Love it love it!
