Definitely not sturdy enough on its own.
I bought some extra boards and also added some legs for support underneath.
(The blue is whats included in the bed purchase, the red is what I added.)
I bought this because it was the size and color I wanted. If I werent needing gray, Id probably have bought another bed that was more sturdy ok its own.
My kids love this bed and it is pretty easy to assemble but you do need 2 people, a small drill, and muscle because some bolts have to be forced in. You can use a drill bit but I didnt want to chance messing it up. The smell was overpowering but it did go away after like a week, so if planning on purchasing I suggest opening all the boxes(3) and airings them out. The boxes came separately diff days. I put a 8 memory foam mattress and its perfect. I think the 6-7 are too thin. Over all this bed is sooo worth it and beautiful.
Love this bed! Directions were scary at first because they are drawings only. But once started it goes together remarkably well and is very well made!!! We were concerned that the bed might not hold up for our teenagers but we talked with the manufacturer and they were very helpful and satisfied all our needs!
Although the finish is quite nice, and the style is as well, the build quality is lacking. The hardware could be better. I have had to tighten screws down again after a months use. It is a nice product, but be prepared for a couple of screws to back out. If you are not experienced with power tools, put this together with hand tools as you will strip the hardware.
I purchased this bed with the trundle for the grandkids since I didnt want bunk beds. What I didnt like was the width between the slats and the issues of breakage reported in the reviews. I looked into buying bunkie boards to place on the slats but that would of been too think for the trundle, so I added pieces of finished plywood on top of the slats.
After researching what material to buy I went to the local big box hardware store and had them cut 1/2 inch thick finished plywood to 38 by 75 for the top and 38 by 74 for the trundle. Worked perfect as a platform plus there has been no issues with any breakage. I believe if you want to use plywood on a full bed it has to be thicker than 1/2, also I bought the ready to paint or stain plywood so the finish would not be rough and I didnt need to sand it.

Cute and sturdy
Great twin bed. My 3year olds 1st bed. We can lay in it with her and it feels safe and sturdy.
Well made good looking bed from a reputable manufacturer who stands behind their product.
