I love this chair. With a cushion its incredibly comfortable, it appears to be made of real wood (complete with a fresh cedar scent), and its appearance is invitingly charming. The description says and time will tellthat its meant for outdoor use. We will see!
The only draw backand its considerableis assembly. My fatherinlaw put it together for me and hes an engineer. He raved about how much he liked the chair but remarked that he didnt see how anyone without an engineering degreeand proper toolscould put the chair together. It took him about 2 hours to put the chair together. It arrived as essentially a box of sticks.
NOTE: I was ok with putting the 2 chairs together and I am handy.
Overall the chairs were not horrible to put together. They took me about 30 mins each. I did take some additional time to make sure the slats were spaced well. These chairs were a gift. Below are some suggestions from my experience.
Tools: Power Drill, Channel Lock Pliers, 13mm Lug Wrench is suggested, Tape Measure (for accurate spacing), Phillips head Screwdriver.
If you have plans of weatherproofing these, it would be best to do it BEFORE assembly. and a light sanding with 120 will even everything nicely.
1. Match all the like parts together by the stamped part number.
2. When assembling the backrest, I screw the slats in only partially because it can be tough to align the screw and the holes. Working from center slat out is easier to align the screws.
3. When assembling the seat slats, I used a tape measure to space them 3/4 apart.
4. I found it easier assembling these alone, to assemble the F part legs and then screw them onto the base. This also helped with screwing the back on.
Chairs easy to put together. A drill is a must have, otherwise it would have taken forever. Only after a few weeks a couple of the seat slats broke. return was authorized immediately; however only want to replace slats instead of entire chair. I purchased 6 chairs. Only 1 with the defective slats.
These were replacements for wood product units that rotted after only two seasons. These are much more durable and were purchased based on tables made of the same material that lasted longer than the wood product chairs. Great buy.
I bought these chair because of the folding feature and supposed easy assembly. Even after watching a video on YouTube, I found unfolding the chair to be a big wresting match, with the chair winning. I think it will be easier going forward, as initial assembly required the installation of two bolts which should keep it in alignment for folding and unfolding. Since that will be a seasonal activity, I am not too concerned. The quality of the chairs is great.
Like many have said, these are not easy to put together. One piece did split, but it was not a super critical piece, so we just glued it and carried on. Then, a metal fitting that was embedded in a board came all the way out. Again, we just did our best to work around it. We are happy enough with the size of the chairs, but no one in our family is over 58. Im happiest with how they look after painting them to match our front door. Id say these chairs are worth it for the price. Luckily, we had a weekend to devote to their construction. If you dont, you might want to spend a bit more .
