The quality of the steel frame is actually quite good. However, the manufacturing tolerances are quite poor. We had to enlarge some of the holes with a drill because the welding of the brackets was misaligned, preventing proper assembly (i.e. the screws would not align with the holes).
If you are handy with a drill and have some patience, it is a good bed once assembled. However, I expected better quality control at this price. It should be easy enough for them to drill larger holes or align the pieces properly during manufacturing.
I like it and am keeping it. Metal is hollow, but still thick and sturdy. Im about 190 lbs and I think it could handle 2 of me just fine. A few issues and things that would make it much better:
-The allen/hex key bolts are a slight size bigger then the allen tool provided and that causes it to start to strip the bolt once you start your final tighten, which may make this difficult to disassemble in the future. The allen tool set I own does not include a size that fits correctly.
- some of the loose metal punched out to put in bolt nutserts at the factory is left inside at least one of the sealed, hollow, metal beams. Should be fine, but Im annoyed knowing the metal bits are in there. I could only hear them moving around inside during assembly.
-having some kind of black rubber cap to hide the bolt heads would be a nice touch to add, though could add a choking hazard for small children.
-the frame does not have any raised lip to keep the mattress from moving side to side. Mine is fine, but a box spring with a solid base with no grip could slide around.
-I wish the corners at the feet-end of the frame were rounded or had some kind of padding. I know the day will come when my shins are going to understand why.
-A few small spots have the black paint chipped away. Only in spots you cant see when assembled, but maybe a small bit of black paint to touch-up those spots would be nice?
Add those things as a $10 or so add on and this would be perfect.
For the price, this is a solid bed for a guest room or a person on a very tight budget. While its very sturdy, mine came with some quality control issues. First the stamped holes didnt line up properly on the last corner (at the foot of the bed). I was able to get one bolt in by using a screwdriver to force the pieces into alignment through the other hole, but then the other hole was so far off I could not get the screw in at all. The machining tolerances could be a little finer for a piece of furniture. However, the corner did fit together and I dont think it will pose a problem with the bed structurally. The pieces that make the headboard were missing the black finish in spots, so I will have to touch that up with black paint. Looks as if the powder coat or paint they use doesnt stick well to the welds where the plate steel meets the crossbars on the headboard. All in all, for the price, this is a decent bed but the lack of detail on the fit and finish is a big minus for a piece of furniture. If you want the surface to look perfect, this isnt the bed for you. If you want a sturdy, inexpensive bed, I can recommend it.

My son loves his new bed frame. Its high enough enough to store some boxes underneath. Looks great in a teens room.
