Great futon for the price, I ordered this futon because I liked the modern look to it. I ordered it in black and I plan on using it as an everyday futon for the smaller space in the living room. It arrived a day later than originally scheduled which was a little annoying but overall not a huge problem. The set up was fairly straightforward it took me about 35 minutes to get it set up and ready for use. As many have pointed out the two middle legs are plastic and not the wood finish of the outside four; but you cant even see the two legs in the middle. Ill update in a few months to show how it holds up. Better then I thought
This futon is exactly what we needed. It looks great in our guest bedroom/office. We didnt want to put a bed in there since its mainly used as an office, so this was the perfect middle ground. Its not too big and would fit nicely into a smaller space. It is a little bit stiff and wont be the most comfortable thing to sleep on, but for guests that only stay a night or two its perfect. It doesnt look as cheap as I expected it to, the fabric seems pretty durable. Its so easy to assemble and even easier to convert it into a bed from the couch position! I would buy this if youre not going to use it as a bed very often, but as a couch its perfectly fine (but still a bit hard).
Look out for price drops.we got this for 172 and three days later it was at 300. Did not disappoint
If I could, I would give 4.5 stars, but I didnt want to give it just 4, so I gave 5. I paid 199.00 with free prime shipping so my review is based on that price point. If I paid the 270 + tax that it is currently priced at, I would have been disappointed.
I wanted an IKEA Karlstad which are priced competitively at 399. Problem is, I live in a rural area, the closest ikea is a 3.5 hour drive, and shipping to my region from ikea is 350 for anything. You could buy a spice rack and it would be 350, or you could buy a whole house full of furniture and it is 350. This is very similar in style to the karlstad, cheaper, and free shipping, so I pulled the trigger. It will serve as as a temporary couch until I can get to an IKEA or move to a city that has one, then be moved to a guest room/office.
It definitely pulls off the mid/century modern look. Not the most comfortable thing, but impressively comfortable for a 200 futon. I fell asleep on it last night. The cushions offer good support, and the size is great for me at 60. I will add some throw pills to give the couch some depth and to add some comfort. The fabric is nice to the touch and has a nice appearance (I got the grey one). It it has a nice texture. It doesnt scream this is a futon and looks more like a couch, at least when pushed against a wall. It can easily serve as a primary sofa in a small apartment, contrary to what the other reviews say. I have sat on 400 serta couches that are less comfortable. I suspect, though, the serta/type couches will hold up better over time. Assembly was easy to do by myself. Took me less than 45 minutes, though I used a ratchet rather than the tiny wrench that comes with it. It would have taken considerably longer trying to assemble it with the provided tool.
You wont find a better futon for 199 if you are looking for the mid/century modern look, You would be hard pressed to find a real couch with a mid/century modern look for under 500 outside of IKEA, so if you are on a budget, or have limited options in your area, I might consider paying the 270 asking price, particularly if it wont get much use.
The middle legs ARE plastic, but mine were brown. Some reviews said theirs were black. They are visible when looking at the couch from most angles, and they do somewhat detract from the look, but that is the nature of futons and should be expected. The legs dont look cheap or painted like some other reviews said. They ARE cheap, and ARE painted/veneered, but they look real and nice, even up close.
Cons:
Cushions are wrinkled, probably due to the fabric not being pulled very tight. Putting it in couch mode makes this worse, as it compresses the cushions at the bottom/back. That said, I think it might be something that is the result of being folded and stuffed in a box and might get better with time and use, and is not bad enough to knock off a star, particularly if you plan on adding some pillows, which will hide the problem.
Overall I am pleased with the purchase. I dont have any photos yet, but it looks exactly as pictured. You wont regret it!
I was pleasantly surprised with how big the couch is, considering I knew it was being shipped via Prime. The seat and back are the perfect width so someone short can still touch their feet to the ground but someone tall can fit comfortably. It is firm but bouncy so you dont sink to the springs, and the color is perfect. Very classy looking piece that was very easy to put together. Great value for the price. Good Quality for Cost
This is the single worse purchase I have ever made. This piece of junk fell apart after less than a month. Completely caved in the middle and the two middle support legs have snapped in half. I will demand a refund because it has become unusable and Im extremely angry with the poor quality of this futon. Buyer beware.
Was a little skeptical about this couch/futon. Very compact box I have to say. Used a dolly to get it up 2 flights of stairs (if youre afraid of dropping the box, its a good idea. Assembly was easy but make sure you have the pieces positioned correctly especially when sliding on the arms and screwing them into place, it can be awkward for one person to do, but can be done. The look of it is great; exactly how I expected it to be. It definitely has that nice firm spring/like futon feel but a bit more elevated. Its totally worth the price tag (even if it only lasts a year or two. We will see. Will probably post an update in 6 months. I recommend it for a really nice mid century unique piece in a living room or guest room. Worth it. So far so good
Perfect for our bonus room! This futon came a day early, was super easy to assemble and seems sturdy so far. It is pretty hard/firm but I think thats to be expected based on the price and the fact that its a futon not a real couch. It looks great (looks like it would be more expensive than it is). The only downfall is it does sit REALLY low to the ground so I would be sure youre okay with that before purchasing. solid build quality
