Great Barn Door With Proper Pre Prepping

I got the door in November 2020. I painted all the after assembling it. The problem I ran into is that the wood is still fresh and drying. After a few weeks all of the wood planks shrank up to an 1/8 leaving up to a 1/4 gap between planks. I had to remove the diagonal braces and reposition the planks to close the gap. In hindsight I would recommend taking all the wood out of the package and laying them flat on a hard floor and let the wood dry out completely. I would say up to a month. After being completely dry, I would paint all the wood pieces first before assembling. I would use primer before painting the final color. Let all the paint dry for at least 24 hours before completely assembling. The wood is very soft pine and assembles easily. Once you get the planks spaced where there are no gaps to allow light between the planks (I had some backlight it with a flashlight), I would glue the planks to the upper and lower wood supports to prevent the planks from shifting before screwing in the diagonal wood supports. I used Elmers glue. The last thing I would do is plug the screw holes with the wooden dowel plugs because once you plug the holes you will not be able to remove the screws to take the frame apart should the need arise.

    Just An ok door

The doors ended up ok but the pieces are not all stamped very clearly to know where the pieces go. Took a bit to finish and it is hard to stain in the corners. This was the only affordable one so we were willing to work at it a bit. Once done and hung they look nice. Would never do double barn doors again though.

    Great affordable door

Ive purchased two of these for different properties and both have been great. I left out the cross bars to lessen the barn door/country vibes. Take it from me, stain is best. This is extremely cheap wood that will not look good painted (unless maybe youre doing a rustic chalk paint finish).

Great for stain, easy peasy to assemble.

Easy to assemble, could be left raw pine or easily stained. Great for price.

    Made well!

This door is excellent quality. It looks so good and its worth every penny. The door has to be put together and stained. That takes time but it was totally worth it.

We had a contractor put the door together and hang it! It looks great and still has to be painted!

    Great door

I put the doors together by myself and it was easy. Im a capable woman. I will be hanging it shortly. The doors are beautiful and a bargain at the price. I would buy them several times over. The pre/drilled holes were perfect and I had zero issues. It took me about 45minutes. If you have help 30 minutes tops. The quality of the doors were good.

    Beware the warp

really pay attention to wood, look at pieces along spine for warp, and try to assemble opposingly to correct natural warp//this would be nice to have as a main point on instructions cause if you just put together and not really pay attention, this door would be a nightmare project Other than that it really is a gorgeous door/ heavy too.

    Functional, easy to put together

I felt a bit ridiculous spending this much for just precut door bits but given the price of lumber and thee time to sand and measure and cut it all myself I decided to just buy this. I was really pleased overall. It went together very easily with no help needed, and I finished it with four coats of water/based poly. I think it looks great and Im glad I went for it. I also bought the barn door and handle hardware that was suggested along with it and I was very pleased with the quality of those items as well.
