Easy to assemble, difficult to follow directions because who knows what 1.09 inches is?? We are college grads and got frustrated with the measurements listed so we did our best math and it worked after measuring everything using a standard tape measure. Had to use a different floor guide to prevent putting a hole in our carpet. Used a hardwood header board to mount the track on because the track did not align with our studs and we do not have a good history with Molly bolts holding up something heavy very long. We put up the header and used 2 1/2 lag screws Which we had to purchase. 4 lag screws came with it but since we were using a hardwood header we didnt need them.
No where in the instructions does it tell you the placement of the j/hook on the door. Actually the said how far down (1.09 inches) but not how far from the edgeand the picture we saw did not match our door.
This was our first DIY project and we felt satisfied. It is not perfect but works for us.
It required a little work to assemble and hang, but if you are handy, this should not be too terribly difficult. We stained our door, and with a little labor, we saved a few hundred dollars!! Its a favorite in our new home!!
The wood was softer than we thought it would be. We scratched in a couple spots when assembling. We bought a stain pen and it looks fine. There was a precut channel on the bottom for the guide mounted on the floor. That was not clear in the instructions and we had to disassemble to fix. A note on that would have been nice. Fortunately all three were together when we disassembled to fix. Some of the trim boards that make the arrow shape had a side that was more finished than the other side. A note for that would have been nice. We used a header board when we mounted due to studs not being 16 on center (included as a tip when you install the door hardware, purchased separately. Susceptible to dents and scratches. Would not recommend for industrial or high use area. All that said we really like the look of the door and would purchase this product again.
Good price for a nice looking door. It was packaged nicely. Arrived fairly quick. Need some time to assembly but not difficult. Can take long time if you dont have a drill.
We bought both the 38x84 as well as the 30x84 doors. I was shocked how many odd defects were in the larger door compared to the smaller one, but two odd fittings just made for more character. The hardware is fantastic, only complaint is that I wish the track was about 6 longer. These doors are heavy and very solid. We reorganized the cross/boards with a slightly different pattern and couldnt be happier with how they turned out for such a reduced cost compared to the custom doors I was planning on ordering.
I opted for wood glue at each connection then screws and wood filler to finish assembly. I want to mention that I did have to purchase an extended phillips impact driver bit to complete assembly (to adequately sink the screws to allow the wood dowels to fill the holes perfectly). The doors required little to no sanding, so we sanded only briefly with an ultra/fine grain then primed (one coat). Finally we applied two/coats of semi/gloss paint. I am so happy with this purchase and recommend to anyone willing to put in some elbow grease for a beautiful product. If you want a ready/to/go door, this is not for you.
