It took the two of us old codgers 5 hours to assemble, but no pieces were missing and we love it, and so do the grandkids. The only fault with it is that the captain's drawers have no guides, so I have to fenagle them into place, but no biggie.
We bought this for our mature 4 year old who we thought would be just fine navigating the ladder. We have found though that when he's tired the ladder can be a little tricky for him. I know jackpot also makes a version with stairs, and so I wish they could be purchased separately since the stairs would be great to use right now, but certainly as our son gets older the ladder I'm sure would be just fine.
Bed arrived in a timely fashion. It came in 6 huge boxes and with myself and my family being very busy, needless to say these boxes sat in our front hallway for about a week before me and my husband mustered the courage to get started putting it together. Everyone told us we would not be able to put it together on our own, how it will start an argument and end in a divorce if we attempted to assemble this thing with no outside help. I even made an appointment with a task rabbit to get the job done but cancelled and ultimately decided we could do it alone. The instructions, although no words just pictures, were pretty clear and once you get in the swing of things the process is pretty self explanatory. The instructions tell you to start with the bottom, then the top and then simply put the top on the bottom and secure. We started around 9:30 at night and finished just before 1 a.m. That was just the bed itself, no stairs or under bed drawers assembly. I put the drawers together myself the following morning. Took me about an hour. The staircase came in 2 boxes which for now we have shoved under the bed (you can see one of the boxes sticking out slightly at the bottom in the photo). Since my son is still on the young side, we decided for now it's not safe to give him access to the top bunk. Once he is older and understands a little more that this bed is for sleeping and not a jungle gym, we will assemble and attach the stairs. This bed is very sturdy and beautiful and allows for so much extra space in the room. We're currently using it as a guest bed for my visiting mother in law. I am glad that we did not have a negative experience with this product or assembly.
Easy to out together (for a bed) and pretty sturdy. One of the boards came with a viable dent and crack so sent a replacement. They only sent whole units so I have two giant boxes sitting here and no way to get them to the ups store. Also the bed price dropped $30 since I bought it.
Ok so it's heavy in the boxes to move yourself. But once you get it to where you want and open it up it's nice. Fairy easy to set up. I like that it can hold upto 400lbs. I don't know how accurate that is but I'm 230lbs and my son is 30lbs. I know we arent 400lbs but it holds us just fine. The grey paint we got look nice in his room as well. The step storage it helpful. We got this bed to help storage issues in a small room. And since he was going from a toddler bed to twin we really didn't have the room for that. So now with this bed all his toys fit underneath saving lots of room. Even tho the price was higher than others this was a better choice. The material is much heavier duty and has a higher weight limit then the ones half this price. The extra money was worth spending.
