    Looks great!

This is exactly what we needed for our mud room space. We were careful when we put it together because of complaints in other reviews. Were very pleased with our final product.

    Sturdy and Nice Looking Furniture

This hall tree is beautiful and had stood up to abuse very well. Our 3-year old is able to lift the seat to put her shoes in, and the hinges dont let the seat slam back down. Its got enough room for several pairs of shoes in the bottom, and the compartments in the top are large enough to hold my purse on one side and all of my husbands stuff (wallet, watch, phone, several sets of keys, random stuff from the hardware store, etc). I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it was difficult to put together and some of the pieces had to be engineered because the drill holes didnt match up very well. But very sturdy and nice looking.

    wonderful design

all pieces clearly labeled, instructions illustrated and clear, although further labels on some pieces stating place this side toward the back or front would be helpful because as it is being assembled, transferring the illustrations to 3D real life was challenging. it was a fun project, not easy but doable with patience. all cam locks, screws etc were present, very very slight paint odor that is not worth mentioning but was brought up as a negative by another reviewer. the unit is pretty, exactly what i needed to put my many things down, hang up my keys, place my purse and jacket and grocery sacks as i try to open the door as i am greeted by two boisterous dogs. a little place for a respite if i need to sit a spell before i head in the house to begin again. very happy with this purchase.

Exactly what I wanted but difficult to build

Even though each piece is labeled instructions were clear, this piece takes more than one person plus someone with some strength to build. I would recommended getting some help, but after all the hard work is done it looks really good. Ive already received a lot of compliments. Add some wicker baskets in the storage area it looks even better, its a functional piece of furniture with lots of space perfect in my foyer.

    It goes well

It was packaged well; but the instructions could have been a little more clear in a couple steps and we had a problem getting the lid centered and being secure - had to make some modifications to hold it but overall it looks good and will serve its purpose

    looks good, but...

I like the look of this piece, but I didnt read the dimensions very well. I expected this to be a lot taller than it is so watch the dimensions. It looks great put together and very functional also. My lifting seat bench is not on properly so it catches and squeaks every time I open/close it, so we are still trying to figure that out for the assembly

its a nice unit but a PAIN to install

At first I wasnt sure what to expect because when I took the pieces out of the box, it looked more like plastic than wood. Now that it is assembled, it looks really nice and sturdy. My biggest gripe is that this took more than 4 hours to assemble and it was extremely difficult to piece together. The instructions were difficult to read and had I known the skill set required and time it would have preferred to hire someone to assemble on my behalf. Also - the package was terribly heavy and wonder if it could have benefited to have come partly assembled such as the top piece in one box and the trunk part shipped in a separate box.

    Attractive, useful piecer

Ordered for our guest room; storage for extra blankets, bench to sit upon and attractive. My husband has put together several of this type of product and this was by far the most difficult. Several of the screws didnt have threads which meant a trip to the hardware store. Plus the hinges to hold up the bench top are much too heavy and basically useless. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5. The finished items is delightful and perfect for the location.

    Not worth the money

I received this with several pieces missing. The company required that I send pictures of the box before they would send the missing pieces. Two weeks later the missing pieces arrived. This unit had been put together before we purchased it. If shipping wasnt so expensive we probably would have sent it back. It went together easy enough. Smaller than we expected but now that it is set up we like it. Its not solid wood. In hindsight, we should have gone to the unfinished furniture store and purchased one like it since this one needs paint!

Hassle to put together, some slightly damaged pieces, and DO NOT USE LID SUPPORT PROVIDED!

Just wanted to update.. April 2016: Ive had this item for 3 yrs now and it still looks the same as the first day we got it, its also been through 2 moves and withstood damage from those. Im going to bump it up to 4 stars at this point as Ive forgotten the hassle of putting it together. We never ended up using the lid supports in fear theyd bust the item but otherwise its been perfect for corralling the kids shoes and school backpacks and coats and am soo glad I purchased this. I am constantly getting compliments on how nice it looks. March 2013/purchasing date: I was very skeptical about purchasing this item, but i happen to snatch it up for the few days had it listed as $238 with prime shipping instead of the $330s it is currently, so i am going to list the pros and cons after putting it together and living with it for a few weeks. Pros: feels pretty strong once put together, looks nice, perfect height for young childrens coats and backpacks, good customer service from home styles, Mine did NOT have an odor as others have experienced. Cons: step number 7 almost impossible- holes did not match up so it took alot of forcing/bending of the camlocks, etc to make the pieces fit together (it did end up working, just hard), several pieces with small damage, nothing that can be seen when put together or jeapordized strength of unit, had to clean out wood and paint from every hole before assembling or it would have caused a problem, lid supports are way tooo stiff and would rip this unit apart-called and for free quickly got replacement lid supports but still way to stiff and didnt work. I recommend purchasing a different brands self balancing lid supports so the ones provided dont ruin the whole thing( on or local hardware store). They told me i needed to work with the supports to loosen them up first, but i couldnt even bend them to try to loosen them up, maybe a little wd40 would help? but i decided to purchase a different brand that had good reviews so i wouldnt have to risk them being too tight again later. Color is NOT PURE WHITE, its more of an antique white almost almond- this was a problem for me as the rest of my living room and trim was pure white. For an adult this would be way toooo short for coats, only about 5ft 4 in tall total. The cubbies at the top arent very deep (7 1/4 in deep by 8 1/4 in tall 10in under notch x 17 in width each ) so it could be hard trying to find baskets to work for it which is what i wanted to do, target has some fabric ones that will work out ok, just nothing fits it perfect. Even with all the cons i am still glad i took the plunge and tried it. Its what i needed and works great for the kids with the slight modification of lid support to prevent smashed fingers.
