Solid wood. You can tell more care went in to this one then some just a bit lower priced. The stain, construction, and sturdiness are impressive. I had my 12yr, 8yr, and 6yr old help and it went together very quickly. I would highly recommend this unit as a piece under 1,000
I like how the island looks and how sturdy it is. The only tough part was getting the assembly started but once we could get the first few parts together properly it went smoother.
overall it is a very nice island and looks very sturdy and well made. Only issue I have is that there were 2 noticeable blemishes / one on the counter top / chipped corner and the other is below the counter and before the drawers / looks dented. There was also another blemish towards the bottom facial that looks like it was sprayed painted instead of fixing it.
If I can get a counter replacement that would be awesome as thats the most noticeable and for the price paid, it should be in mint condition.

Cons: Structural integrity is not great. Assembly is not easy, instructions are wrong in some cases. Parts fit poorly (leaf will not extend fully due to poor fit).
Although this island looks fairly nice and is functional I would not purchase this unit again. Lack of structural strength and integrity is its biggest drawback. It needs additional fastener points instead of relaying on dowels and a small number of small diameter bolts. Finish is also not consistent, some surfaces are quite poor while others are nice. There is also a strong smell of wood stain.
Its a sturdy island however it is NOT white! Our kitchen is completely white and this sticks out like a sore thumb its some shade of off white/grey. We like the durability and size but unfortunately we have to paint it to match nowvery annoying. I dont even know how wed go about returning it because its huge, but I would really like to because for this much money Id hope to love it
