Perfect fit and truly solved the problem I was dealing with. Too many shoes at the front door and no good place to put them. This totally took care of the issue AND provides a nice place for guests to sit when removing or putting on shoes. Nice and sturdy and fairly easy to assemble.
I had just assembled my new bench last night and am pretty stoked. Kudos also to Cymax for the fast free shipping. Below are things I find with this product.
The Good:
- Easy and straight forward assembly with plenty of extra hardware.
- At just 33 wide and 12 deep, this is perfect size for the space I have for it. Most of the other shoe rack benches Ive seen are way too larger at 48 - 50 wide and around 18 deep.
- The cushion has a fabric case with a zipper, which means I can remove the case for washing or even replace the foam padding in the future if it becomes flat.
- The middle shelves are reconfigurable with 3 different heights, which is useful if you have boots or high heeled shoes.
- It is sturdy enough to support my 260 pound fat ass when I sat on it.
The Bad:
- Id say the quality of the wood is below that of even furniture if you are familiar with their products. The particle boards are less dense and lighter.
- The pilot holes for the screws are a bit too large for the supplied screws. There isnt enough material for the threads to bite into. I was on the verge of stripping every single screw with around 10 ft-lb of force. So be mindful of the torque setting on your drill driver.
- The laminated finish is thin and weak. It cracks and rips upon contact with the crowns of the screws during assembly.
- The finished unit was not square. It tittered on the diagonal, so I had to back out the threads on 2 of the legs to make it sit flat on the floor.
- There were greasy smudges and finger prints on both sides of every panel. It seems like those Chinese workers at the factory just dont care about quality and cleanliness.
It does seem that I had more bad things to say about this product than good despite giving it 4 stars. But I must point out that all these faults can be remedied, or avoidable if you are careful. Plus my assessment was heavily weighted in favor for its small size. All in all, this is not a bad piece of furniture at this price point. Had it cost $20 more, I would have judged it more harshly.
