We are not the outdoors type and have never camped before but we were able to put this tent together. Watching a YouTube video helped with the visual. We used it on a rainy night and woke up super dry. Comfortably fit 2 adults and 2 kids with plenty of room to spare. I recommend it.
It is a great tent for the price, you have to be gentle with the fiberglass poles but when it is up, it is a roomy secure (multiple guidelines) tent. We own/have owned 3 and 4 seasons tents made by sierra designs, mountain hardware, north face and kelty. I tend to be hard on equipment and am used to have top line products. with the arrival of out two sons, it is now more car camping and this beast fits the bill very well and at a very reasonable price. Great view for clear nights without the fly, and the ventilation is good. Floor keeps water out well, and if properly pitched, it will take some big wind. diagonal rain will get screen porch wet, but no infiltration in sleeping area.
I was not expecting much when I bought this tent. I just needed something quickly for my camping trip the next week. My last tent got torn in a storm the year before. I bought this one because I liked the idea of a front porch that kept the bugs out. I didnt take it out of the box until I got to the campsite. Within the first 24 hours of having it out of the box set up on the campsite a storm hit. I was waiting for the seams to leak, something to tear, water seeping in, anything bad. This tent held up - through 36 hrs of downpour, high winds - did NOT leak, rip, break or have ANY water come into it. The front porch became my best friend for that 36 hrs, as the inside of the tent got boring really quick. I had angled the tent front facing slightly downhill, this ended up being great, as I could sit - in my camp chair - in the front porch and watch the storm, read a book, draw and just listen to the rain, and barely got wet. The front it obviously going to have some rain get into it since its mesh and not sealed, but it wasnt enough to deter me from hanging out there and watching Mother Nature. But it didnt leak into the room of the tent or onto any of my gear.
Pros:
? Tent is nice, pretty easy to set up with two people, a little more difficult by yourself, but still manageable.
? I would say its about a 3-4 person tent if you account for adult sized, but I used this specifically with one other person and we were really comfortable, both with plenty of space for ourselves. (Cant really sleep in the porch comfortably.)
? The porch is really nice Its nice to hangout in there in the mornings, especially because it gets quite hot in the tent when the sun is beating down on it, but I dont think theres any way around that.
? Rain fly allows for good airflow while also keeping you dry
Cons:
? My rain guard unfortunately came ripped, but not in a spot where water could get in, although Im worried itll continue to rip.
? It would be nice if the porch had flaps so you could close it up for the rain, thats a downfall to this tent.
? Also the mesh back is great for air flow but not so great if you want privacy. If youre camping on a private or isolated camp grounds its not a big deal, but for example I was at a pretty crowded camp ground for an event, and the rain guard is mandatory unless you dont care if people watch you sleep and see all your possessions in the tent.
Its a great tent but dont think you will fit 6 people in there with any comfort. Im in my 50s and need a little more room for my cot. Im not a big guy but since my cot is a foot or so off the ground, you would only be able to fit two cots in there if you dont want to be touching the tent walls. As far as weatherproof, you wouldnt believe the storm we had on the second night of camping. In under 15 minutes, our campfire was completely flooded out. Its a good thing the tent was on a bit higher ground. The inside of the tent was totally dry and survived the powerful winds too. The tent spikes are a little on the flimsy side, so I will be replacing them with ten inch spikes and flat washers. We were on a gravel surface and bent most of the pegs trying to get them in. The screen room, , , pretty useless for the most part. but it does make a buffer to help keep pesky mosquitoes out of the Sleeping Quarters. My only real complaint is the sleeping quarter size. So, if you are looking for a two person tent, this is the one that I would buy again in a heartbeat. I guess if I need a 6 person tent, I better look for a 12 person size.
Just got this tent of of warehouse deals for about $100. We have not camped in it yet but will update this after as I expect we will encounter some extreme weather. Setup was easy and I had no need to use the instructions. Poles and tent were color coded and things went up and came down easy. Everything fit back in the bag easily when complete. The floor is very sturdy tarp material and there is plenty of room for our family of four and our gear. I made a youtube video of us putting it up and tearing it down, search for evanston brady. UPDATE: After field testing we have lowered our rating. The plastic clips holding the rain fly snapped during a rainstorm causing the tent to loose its integrity. Not good for rough weather. You can see a video of this problem in action too.
This tent is pretty roomy and I love having the screened portion. I was looking for a tent with a screened porch but all I was seeing were tents that were either entirely too big or the porch part did not have a floor in it. Ive used this tent a couple of times and not sure how well the seems are going to hold up...some seem to be pulling away at the bottom. I also love the fact that the tarp flooring comes up a little on the sides to help keep moisture out of them tent.
I havent been camping in years and bought this to go camping with friends. I wanted an easy to put up tent and bought this one based on several reviews that I read about easy it was. Well, for me it was NOT. It took about an hour to get the thing up and even then the rainfly never went on properly. There were no pictures to show how it should go and instructions were sketchy at best. The fly has a LOT of long cords that got all tangled up and proved to be frustrating. As you can see in the photo, we never did get it on correctly. I did not like the screened porch (which I thought I would love) because its really low and even sitting on a chair you hit your head on the roof. The sleeping part was big and I put a queen size mattress in there comfortably. But the entire back side is an open window that does not have any kind of flap for coverage. Taking it down was another adventure. I got so mad at the fly that I just rolled it up in a ball. I barely was able to put the tent itself back into the carry case. Forget about putting the stakes, poles and fly in it. So after one use I am putting it up for sale and I bought instant cabin tent. Much easier.
I did NOT receive this on a discount. LOL (Im tired of reading all the reviews that say that), but this is my honest opinion. Quality wise I think the tent is well built. But it was just too difficult for this old gal to deal with. (In addition I had high altitude sickness so I was not feeling like having to mess with tent prep for an hour).

Best Purchase Ever - Glad I talked myself into this tent, heres why:

Rain guard came ripped, a few other negatives otherwise overall positive.
