What a great bench. It is solid wood and is very well constructed. The assembly was a piece of cake. I had it completed on my own in less than 15 minutes. I do wish the baskets were a bit larger, but I am really thrilled with it nonetheless.
After reading reviews, I decided to go ahead and purchase this bench. The price was extremely attractive and I figured, if I didnt like, I could always return it (love .com).
It arrived and was relatively simple to put together. I didnt have any pieces missing. The only thing I had was a little scratch on the top part of the bench - a little discolored, but you know what? Im not complaining - its cheap and free shipping. Ill deal with a little scratch. After all, Im sure I will be making my own on there in due course.
As another reviewer mentioned, there was a loud CRACK the first time you sit on it, but after that, its great. Im about 215lbs and sit on it every morning to put my shoes on and afternoon to take them off.
I give it 4/5 because of the scratch (even though I am not bothered by it, it shouldnt be there) and also because it does feel a little cheap. Not saying it isnt handling me, but if I had a couple teenagers, I may be a little concerned with them plopping down on top of it with all their might. For us, it serves the purpose we need.
THis is a nice looking and well made wood bench. I am using it as a shoe bench placed in the foyer. its the perfect size that can store 8 pairs of shoes (more if mixed in with sandals). It was quite easy to assemble -- the pre-drilled holes were pretty good fit, no problems there. I can see it being used as, besides a shoe bench, a storage bench put by foot of bed, or even I can see it as a TV cart.
The material is of real wood, not the pressed wood chunk junk! Assembly is easy and instruction complete. Time spent is little more then 1/2 time of Doctor Oz Show. End product is REALY sturdy, functional, and attractive. Though extreme attention to detail (example wood stain coverage) is a bit shy, but acceptable for a piece furniture of this price range. Too bad I dont need but one. Will surely buy again if need another.

This bench was tough to find - the dimensions had to be pretty exact to fit in our entryway without blocking the door. This was a great find! We got it at a great price for a hardwood bench (you can pay lots more for a crappy composite bench). It was easy to assemble, is quite sturdy, and looks very nice in our home. Very satisfied!
The name, says it all! This bench is ELEGANT zero complaints about it. Well packaged, easy instructions to follow and I love the baskets. I feel that three little basket keeps the bench sophisticated! I love it and recommend it.
We ordered this bench directly from Cymax, and it came very quickly. There were some quality issues, however. The back panel was very slightly damaged on one corner, though not enough to make us decide to return the bench. In addition, one of the cuts for the shelf was not completed. If we hadnt had a jigsaw to complete the cut ourselves, we couldnt have assembled it and would have had to send it back. The stain/finish was not completely applied, so we had to use a stain pencil to color in two small unfinished streaks on one side. But if it werent for the problem requiring us to drag out the jigsaw, it would have been easy to assemble. Be aware that the finish is lighter than antique walnut, and more like chestnut.
All that being said, the bench itself is quite sturdy solid wood, and the baskets are larger than I envisioned and very well made. (The first time it was sat on, it creaked loudly, but its been silent ever since.) We needed a narrow bench at the bottom of our bed to provide a place to sit and its perfect for that. Be careful, though, not to put your feet too far back or youll knock the baskets into the back wall of the chest. We put felt dots on the basket bottoms and backs to prevent them from scratching the wood.
I made a simple cushion for the top, and it looks great. The shelf and baskets are large enough to hold slippers and some extra warm socks, though I think I might line them with some of the same fabric I used for the cushion and store some of my knitting in one or two of them.
Update: If youre putting this in your bedroom and want to make a cushion that matches your bedspread, a king-size pillow sham is just the right length (after tucking in a piece of foam cut to fit the bench top), but a little too wide. Sewers can cut the sham down to the right width, and non-sewers can just tuck the extra width under the cushion or let it hang down over the back.
